FAMM Statement on President Trump’s Opioid Plan

WASHINGTON, DC – FAMM President Kevin Ring issued the following statement about reports that President Trump will today announce plans to seek the death penalty in cases in which people have died from a drug overdose. His plan also reportedly calls for reducing the quantity of drugs that can trigger a mandatory minimum prison sentence.

“We shouldn’t double-down on a failed strategy. Put simply, if mandatory minimums worked as proponents claimed, there wouldn’t be an opioid epidemic right now. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is insane – and, in this case, it could be fatal for thousands of addicts.”
