FAMM releases statement after President Biden announces government-wide re-entry reforms, commutations

WASHINGTON – FAMM President Kevin Ring issued the following statement after President Biden announced a comprehensive series of initiatives to improve re-entry for people leaving federal and state prison. The president also commuted the sentences of 31 people.

“The Biden administration has wisely identified various ways in which federal agencies could assist people re-entering society” Ring said. “95% of all people in prison are coming home some day and our communities will be safer if we make that transition easier. We also are glad to see the president use his clemency authority and urge him to use it more boldly in the months ahead.”

For more than three decades, FAMM has united the voices of affected families, the formerly incarcerated, and a range of stakeholders and advocates to fight for a more fair and effective justice system. FAMM has led the fight to reform extreme mandatory sentencing laws and to promote rehabilitation and dignity for all people in prison, 94 percent of whom will return to our neighborhoods one day.
