Families, legislators, formerly incarcerated to discuss issues at the prison
Ocala, Fla. — FAMM and Florida Cares are hosting a Real Talk on Lowell Correctional Institution Saturday, September 21 from 4-6 p.m.
The event allows families of loved ones currently incarcerated at Lowell Correctional Institution, those formerly incarcerated at there and Florida’s lawmakers to discuss the serious issues facing the prison, offer recommendations to improve conditions, repair relationships and promote healing.
Joining us are several Florida legislators, including:
- State Representative Anna V. Eskamani
- State Representative Carlos Guillermo Smith
- State Representative Dianne Hart
The event will be held at Living Hope Community Church, 4817 NE 2nd Loop, Ocala, Florida, 33470.
For nearly three decades, FAMM has united the voices of affected families, the formerly incarcerated, and a range of stakeholders and advocates to fight for a more fair and effective justice system. FAMM’s focus on ending a one-size-fits-all punishment structure has led to reforms to sentencing and prison policies in 6 states and is paving the way to programs that support rehabilitation for the 94% of all prisoners who will return to our neighborhoods one day.
