Definitely not “Club Fed,” although where I am housed is a “low-security” medical facility. Being that all emails from BoP inmates are pre-read, I’m sure that will limit the detail of many stories from other inmates in other institutions. As a considerably disabled individual confined to wheelchair, other than home, this is probably one of the best and safest facility for my special needs. That being said, specialist requests involving our Federal Medical Center (hospital) generally take a minimum of 6 months to process. Americans with Disabilities Act remedies could use some improvement. But the main point of my submission is that there are many inmates — many disabled inmates — who do not have family, cannot work to earn money for Commissary, and some receive ridicule and revulsion for their offense. In this facility, up to 1/4 to 1/3 of the inmates are sex offenders. Truth be told, in some sense, I’m one of the lucky ones. There are many facilities that I’ve heard of where inmates are much worse off. Although I don’t have family anymore (my stepmother just died), I have some very good friends who write me and help support me.
