Revisiting Florida’s “10-20-Life” law

FAMM’s Florida project director Greg Newburn hashes out all of the reasons why Florida’s notorious “10-20-life” mandatory sentencing law must change in a ContextFlorida essay on September 9. Responding to a recent column by Florida House Criminal Justice Subcommittee Chair Matt Gaetz in defense of Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, Greg writes: 

It is undoubtedly true that “Stand Your Ground” has helped shift public policy in favor of victims rather than attackers. That was and remains the right thing to do, despite protests to the contrary.  Unfortunately, at the same time, Florida’s “10-20-Life” gun-sentencing law significantly undermines the effort to shift in favor of victims over criminals.”  Greg includes information about FAMM supporter Ronald Thompson in his essay.
