Stand your ground and don't back down!

February 3, 2010

I'm listening to the Tom Petty song, "Won't Back Down," while writing this alert to you.   Whether or not you like Tom Petty, you can't help but agree with his message.  He sings, "I'll stand my ground.  And I won't back down."

That's exactly what FAMM is doing, and what members of Congress should do!  We need you to call the lawmakers below and tell them to stand their ground and vote to correct the deeply flawed crack cocaine sentencing policy that affects so many of our loved ones.

Call now!  Soon, the Senate Judiciary Committee will begin discussions on S. 1789, a bill we want to see pass!  It is important for the lawmakers listed below to hear from concerned citizens.

To make sure they do, please call the Senate switchboard (202-224-3121) and ask them to connect you to your "assigned" senator (see below). Then, ask the senator to:

(1) vote to eliminate the disparity between crack and powder cocaine, and
(2) reject any amendment that would create new mandatory minimums.

If your last name starts A-C, call

If your last name starts with X, Y or Z, call
Sen. Ted Kaufman (D-DE) and Sen. Al Franken (D-MN)

We will report back to you when the Judiciary Committee takes a vote on the bill. You can also watch the committee meeting by following this link http://judiciary.senate.gov/hearings/hearing.cfm?id=4379.

If we are successful, and the bill is voted out of the Judiciary Committee, it will then have an opportunity to be considered by the entire Senate and we'll need your help again.

Stand with FAMM and don't back down!

Sincerely,

Jennifer
