The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) oversees more than 218,000 federal inmates in almost 200 BOP and privately managed prison facilities. Fifty percent of these prisoners are drug offenders, many of whom are serving mandatory minimum sentences of five to 10 years. If your loved one has been convicted of a federal crime, he or she is affected by the BOP.
